Two and a bit years into making my courtyard garden, and I have been moving out on to the outside of the fence.
I was just looking out here in Australia and comparing our bushland setting with the very pleasant gardens I used to visit at Wentworth Woodhouse, near Rotherham, England.
The photos I took at Wentworth have apparently been viewed on that travel site where people put reviews over 30,000 times (so they keep writing to tell me)! Talk about free advertising. My Wentworth slideshow spring 2014
That got me thinking how excited the Victorian owners of Wentworth, who collected all those exotic plants from around the world, would have been to stand in my spot and view the native trees and plants growing in their home environment. Not only that; the bright green lorakeets are flying freely past making a heck of a noise, it being feeding time towards our 6.30pm spring sunset. They would not have believed their eyes and ears at the big raucous kookaburras, or white sulphur crested cockatoos living a life uncaged.
Here I am on my tiny bit of real estate having the best of both worlds, without the worries of death duties and roof maintenance, while idly hoping the garden contractors turn up tomorrow.
